INDIA'S MANUSHI CHHILLAR CROWNED
MISS WORLD 2017
India's
Manushi
Chhillar was crowned the coveted Miss World 2017 almost 16 years
after Priyanka Chopra won the title in 2000.
Chhillar
competed against 108 contestants from various countries at a glittering event
held at Sanya City Arena in China. Chhillar made it to the top five spots in
the pageant along with England, France, Kenya and Mexico.
Born
to doctor parents, Chhillar, who hails from Haryana, studied in St. Thomas
School in New Delhi and Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women
in Sonepat.
In
the question and answer round that followed her entry in the top five spots,
the 21-year-old Chhillar was asked which profession deserved the highest salary
and why? She replied: "I think a mother is of highest respect. I don't
think its just about cash but love and respect she gives to someone. She is the
biggest inspiration in my life. Mother should get highest respect."
Chhillar is the sixth Indian to win the coveted crown, which was first won by Reita Faria back in 1966.
Aishwarya Rai had bagged the title
in 1994, followed by Diana Haydon in
1997, Yukta Mookhey in 1999 and Priyanka Chopra in 2000, the last for
India.
