GEN RIZWAN AKHTAR NEW ISI CHIEF
Pakistan government today named Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar, as the new head of its
intelligence agency, Inter Services Intelligence,
ISI.
Lieutenant General Akhtar will take over from October 1, when the present ISI
chief Lt Gen Zaheerul Islam retires.
The appointment comes at a time when Pakistan army has been accused of
instigating unrest to weaken Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The ISI was established in 1948 and became the primary institution running the
intelligence operations of the army, air force and navy.
