WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY BEING CELEBRATED
TODAY
The
world is celebrating the World Environment Day
today (June 5).This day is to mark the anniversary of United
Nations Conference on Human Environment in the year 1972 in Stolkholm. This
year's theme is about small Island Nation States.
The
World Environment Day is a time to raise awareness to take positive environmental
action to protect nature and planet Earth.
It was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 on the day
that United Nations Conference on the Human Environment began.
The first World Environment Day was celebrated in 1973.
The theme this year is on Small Islands and
Climate Change . The small island nations are most vulnerable to
climate-induced sea level rise and natural disasters.
The slogan for this year is Raise Your Voice Not
the Sea Level. and it highlights the need to mainstream the
discourse and action on the future of Small Island Developing States by being
heard loudly and clearly.
Here are some tips on what you can do on the environment day.
The issue is climate change needs collective action by all individuals and
countries, but there is still a lot each one of us can do to save the planet.
1 Observe, learn and rise about your concerns about environment with friends,
relatives, colleagues and even strangers.
2. Share information and facts that might promote positive actions for saving
our planet.
3. Reduce you carbon footprint- Switch off electrical appliances When Not In
Use.
4. Reducing, Reuse and Recycle waste. Carry your own shopping bag and stop
taking those polythene bags.
5. Share available resources. Simple steps, like carpooling, or taking public
transport can help!
By taking these small steps we can contribute our bit to save our precious
planet.
