CHIEF QUITS OVER SPATE OF MISHAPS

Joshi on Wednesday resigned taking "moral responsibility" over the
spate of mishaps involving naval warships in the last seven months.
Chief of the Naval
Staff, Admiral D K Joshi resigned today in the wake of submarine accident. In a
statement, the Defence Ministry said that Admiral Joshi has resigned taking
moral responsibility for the accidents and incidents which have taken place in the
Navy during the past few months.
The Government has accepted his resignation with immediate effect. Vice Chief
of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral R K Dhowan will act as officiating Chief of Naval
Staff till the regular appointment.
