INNOVATION SUMMIT FOR HEALTH-2013 BEGINS IN DOHA
The World Innovation Summit for Health, WISH-2013 began in Qatar's capital Doha today with a call for practical, innovative and sustainable health solutions. More than 500 global health leaders, policy makers and analysts from 67 countries have gathered in Doha to discuss ways and means to improve the outreach of health care services to the people across the world.
Union Health and Family Welfare Secretary Kesav Desiraju is representing India
at the Conference. The conference will explore the innovative and sustainable
health care models from different parts of the world including India.
The Chair of the WISH, Professor Lord Ara Darzi of the Royal Imperial College
of London in his opening remarks said with the increase in the incidence of
diseases the burden on the finances of the patients has gone up. Hence the need
to embrace the innovations on the road to an accessible and affordable health
care solutions.
The Chairperson of the Qatar Foundation Sheikha Moza bint Nasser underlined the
importance of improving the health conditions locally and globally through the
application of best practices .She said the conference will open up doors for
exchange of innovative ideas. She also announced the launch of personalized
medical system for Qatar under Project Genome Qatar.The Queen of Morocco,
Princess Laila called for increased public and private sector collaboration to
meet the health goals of the future.
The focus at the summit is on areas like Obesity, Mental health, Integrated and
accountable care, Road traffic accidents, Empowering patients, Antimicrobial
resistance and Big data. The summit also aims to bring collaboration and
partnerships between governments, industry, civil society, non-profits and
academia with the emphasis on the emerging countries.
